Independence Day 2018

This is our third or fourth time having Ali and Brian come on the Fourth of July, and I think it's the perfect tradition!  They left their camper parked at our house after the Recoonion, then slept in it when they came back ten days later for America's Best Hometown Fourth of July.
Nothing more American than apple pie!
We kicked off the Fourth with Foam in the Park--the craziest and funnest tradition in my hometown.  The kids get so covered that you can't even tell which kid is yours.  It was overcast when we went, but turned out to be perfect weather.

Next morning, 5K for Brigham and Allen and Becca.  Brig KILLED it with his time of 24 minutes--he was 17th overall, out of 150 runners.  Allen and Becca were happy to cross the finish line (holding hands) in under 29 minutes.  We got four free registrations (Mollie could not be coaxed out of bed after staying up late with cousins the night before) because Becca made four apple pies for the winners of the 5K.  Alas, we ate no pie.  But wore our patriotic shirts all day with pride.

At 10:00, we walked to the parade and got showered with all the saltwater taffy we could immediately throw away ever want.  When it was over (it's the PERFECT parade that lasts maaayyyyybe 20 minutes), we walked to the City Park for the free kids' carnival.  The kids jumped in bouncy houses, got slushies at Maverik (thanks, Brian!), rode on a train, and zoomed down slides to their hearts' content before we walked home for a good ol' barbecue.  Elk burgers, grilled corn on the cob, salad, and banana cake were on the menu for lunch.
We swayed in hammocks and talked for a while after eating.  It was so nice to be with my sister and just enjoy the day together!  The four of us get along so well and are always laughing together--we love when the Lundells come to visit!
Finally, we loaded up again and headed to Lava Hot Springs, courtesy of Truman.  All the employees of the Lava Foundation and their families got invited to an after-hours potluck.  I will never not go to said potluck!  All of my kids must work at Lava so we can continue this tradition!  There were no lines and we all jumped off diving boards and swam and rode slides and soaked in the hot tub before drying off and enjoying the Lava fireworks display.  All while munching on hot dogs and salads and goodies.  It was HEAVEN.  The perfect way to end a really great holiday.

Allen and Brian and America.

Not going to lie, I'm a little jeals-bells. The real question is...we're there no lines because someone tied the rope across the stairs? Bwahaha.I gave Truman a hard time Monday, but he handled it like a dream employee. I felt a tiny bas, but mostly not.;) Love this Bec!
